Been toying with this idea a bit more, unfortunately missed out on any clearance recons and dont really want to experiment on mine right now.
Here's the basic idea though, which should keep the stock function but add somewhat more power
(Found the base pics on imageshack. no clue who they belong to)
Start with a typical plunger and tube. You could go up to about 1 1/4 OD and still fit in place of the recons bolt/barrel. Even larger if you wanted to trim out some of the shell.

One of the problems is the lack of space behind the plunger, meaning if it moved with the bolt, you'd need to rig a catch and trigger behind the blaster. The solution I think is to keep the tube stationary and actually have the barrel slide inside and push the plunger back. This would let you keep the catch and trigger mostly as is.
Sliding the cocking mech forward again would load a dart and lock the barrel back in place ready to fire

I see this as the best approach to beef up the recon without basically gluing it to another blaster. Only concerns would be you're still only looking at a 3" draw and you would need a very short plunger head to get everything you can out of it. I tested out one of my own plunger tubes with a 1/2" bit of pvc on the end sanded down to allow a cpvc barrel to freely slide into the chamber and it worked fairly well. Air escaping around the sliding barrel could be solved with a washer or o ring around the end that's inside the plunger tube. Only other possible concern is potentially needing to cut off most of the bolt sled to move past the new plunger tube, which would mean losing the sled lock and the barrel snapping back when the plunger hits.
Really the best i can come up with though outside of turning it into an over sized nitefinder with a 2 step prime. If only i could get my hands on some extra bolts and sleds I could experiment properly.
