I was searching around and found these. They are a very odd looking spring. I am thinking of getting a few and seeing how they work for a springer gun. They seem to have the same force as a normal spring, but in half the space. Just wanted to share and see if someone had tried this before. I searched, but found nothing about them.

That's seriously cool. Looks like you can only purchase them in bulk tho.

If anyone ends up ordering some, I'm certainly interested in getting some to play around with.

They look like they would be too short for our purpose. But if you were to stack them...

stacking was exactly the line of thinking I was going. If one will give the power of a normal length, then if you stack say 10 of them... you get my thinking right?

normal spring = kx = force

normal spring = wave spring

wave spring = force = (10k)x

x = draw length

Have fun pulling back a 100 pounds worth of compression strength.

My longbow is 80lbs of pull. Its really not that bad if you work on it. I mean, dont get me wrong it take a good pull, but it is very easy once you you get use to exactly how to pull it back. Should be the same with a nerf gun. Besides, I am not planning on making it THAT strong. Just maybe twice the force of what we are seeing with a spring added longshot. Aiming for at least 200' with the final model. I would love to be the first to hit the 100 yard mark, but I really dont think its it doable.

And even if you can get the springs in and pull it back and fire, part of the gun might break upon firing just because of the brute strength of it...

I agree with Wernarner. It can take some serious reinforcement just to add a regular spring.  I do think these have potential, though. One other problem I can think of is that it might rip your darts apart if you have that much power. I know that can happen with airguns, anyway.

Pay for the springs, and then what?  You'd have to get ryanmc#'s to make homemade internals.

I was thinking of machining some of the internals out of aluminum. I figured either machine then, or just NUTS with the fiberglass and/or epoxy. I have access to a full machine shop. I just have to wait till classes end for the day and I can use it for an hour or so a day, and I have to pay for any materials I use. So It might take a awhile to get one done. However, if I use the +Bow plans and just shorten everything and make it stronger, then I should be able to get some psycho ranges.

Just FYI, All of this is in still in the planning stages. I have not started on any of it yet.

Dont hold your breath. I have been waiting for almost two weeks for my quote. I am sure its because it was a very small order by their terms.
