I suggest using using 10'' with a 2'' berrel, doing this will get you better ranges. This is my first homemade.
Materials:
5 in of 3/4 in PVC.
5 in of 1/2 CPVC.
2 heavy duty rubber bands.
E-Tape lot's and lot's.
Duct-tape.
Hot glue.
Hot glue gun.
Cotton balls (you'll see later.)

5 inches of each.
Now take your 5 inches of 1/2 inch CPVC, and cut it into 1 2 inch piece and 1 3 inch piece.

Now take you 2 inch piece of 1/2 inch CPVC wrap enough E-Tape around it to fit snug itno the 3/4 inch PVC. Push it all the way int the PVC so both ends are flush.

TA-DA you made your barrel.
Now take your 3 inch piece of 1/2 inch CPVC and fill it almost all the way up with cotton balls, now fill in each end with hot glue.
Let hot glue dry.
Now take that "filled" piece of CPVC and wrap E-Tape around one end until it will fit SEMI-LOOSE IN THE 3/4 INCH PVC, NOT SNUG. just not too loose, make it fit, but still move. This part is the most difficult part.
Now take your rubber bands and criss-cross them over the oppisite end.

Now take a STRIP of duct-tape and wrap it around the rubber bands ON the CPVC, not on the top.
Next take the oppisite ends of the bands and hold it on the barrell end of the 3/4 inch PVC. Tape both into place.
Make sure the bands aren't obstructing the barrel.
Place youe E-Taped end of the 1/2 inch CPVC into the open end of the 3/4 inch PVC.
and....your.....DONE!!!! yay! good for you [/sarcasam]
FIRING:
1. Place dart into barrel.
2. Pull on ductape'd end of the "filled" 1/2 inch CPVC untill you are about to pull it out of the 3/4 inch PVC
3. Release.
4. Lather rinse and repeat untill out of darts

Ranges: Ranges really depend on your seal, if you wanted to you could proably use an O-ring.
But with my good seal I am getting 20-22.
