Just as the topic says,  I was wondering why everyone seems to hate flywheel guns?

I own several and they all in stock form except for the buzzbee mech triple had close if not equal range of their spring powered brothers.

I own 2 Motorized Ballzooka made by nerf that shoot the foam balls and stock range was about 25 feet but after some simple modding jumped to double that.
I also have owned a Airzone Quick load blaster that would shoot over 70feet that was simi auto, I own a Airzone DS20, which is a re-branded fast and Furious and that thing stock shot 30 feet or so but with the same mod shot over 80 feet consistantly with a 20 dart load capacity.  I also have a rather highly adapted Tommy 20 that shoots taggers, suction, and sonic darts the same distance using all the same modding Idea.

I recently saw a new blaster or at least its new to me, its the Airzone Punisher Gatling gun Blaster and it belt fed as well as flywheel powered!  For those of you that hav'nt seen it, it is basically a vulcan with almost all the issuses we had with the vulcan fixed.  I really dont play much with my nerf guns much unless the familly decides we want to shoot each other in or outside the house and I really have no need to purchase another blaster except for the fact that I am wondering if I could mod it to shoot 80 plus feet being full auto with a 30 round belt?

So what is it about Flywheel guns that people hate?  Is it the fact that they are battery powered?  Is it that people dont believe that they can be modded easily?
Is it that people think that their ranges suck?
or is it that people just dont know what they are talking about?

Too slow.
If it shoots more slowly that I can manually, then its no good to me. Size is also encumbering (Vulcan).

The vulcan isn't a flywheel gun...

but yeah, as this forum's ORIGINAL "flywheel guy", I don't use them anymore because most of them can't fire stefans. The only flywheel blaster that I own that can fire stefans is the Mech 6, which sucks so much that it isn't worth using.

EXACTLY, I can let out 7 shots out of my big blast, just as fast as I can pump 7 times. In that time a Punisher could let out a small blast of un-accurate shatty ranged darts.

They are loud.....and you can't really mod them.

Weak range doesn't help either.

Well as far as being slow,  I can say that with priming and trigger pulling, the two types are fairly equal.  In some cases the flywheels guns are actually faster because you might only have to hold down the trigger and it will fire as fast as the next dart enters the flywheel alley.

Ubermensch:  I saw you were the original flywheel guy and I saw that alot of you mods for more power involved the square 9V battery which does'nt actually give anymore power it just seems that it takes longer for the battery to die but if you go with a 9.6V battery pack it vertually almost tripples the actual power supply which really is the only major mod that can be done besides replacing the motors which i have only done to one of them.

I know these blasters are loud and I have never partaked in a nerf war, but I cant imagine that they consist of people running around being quite except for boobusing which from my understanding isnt really pratical.
Yes they are loud but only when being fired, they dont have to be on all the time, some are trigger activated and with the power upgrade it only takes a fraction of a second to reach full power for max range.

Now as far as not being able to mod them much here are a few of mine
this one is for you Ubermensch

its the mech 6 with removable magazines and motor up grade as well as the 9.6v battery upgrade
this is the DS20 or Fast and Furious

This one is pump action, so you pull the trigger to spin the flywheels and pump the grip to fire the dart, similar
to a slam fire of a raider, so as fast as you can pump as fast as the darts will shoot.  This one will hit over 80 feet flat and further elevated.
This one is one of my favorites the Tommy 20

This one has the 9.6v battery up grade as well a bigger set of flywheels to allow it to fire tagger and sonic darts, a narrower barrel to increase accuracy, a swappable turret from a broken tommy 20 for faster reload time and a red dot sight for pin point 30 feet or less shots.
This one is the Quick load blaster

This one has an on/off swith and a light turns on at half trigger pull and fires at full trigger pull.
I rewired this one so that the on/off switch was no more, at half trigger pull the flywheels primed and at full trigger pull the gun fired.
This one is the Triple Mech
this gun fires darts, balls, and foam disk.
in stock form this gun would'nt even pass a dart down the barrell!
modded darts are 60 feet or more balls around 35 and disk around 25 feet.

This gun has an on/off swith as well but I replaced it with a pressure on/off that turns on when pressed and off when released, It had a false magazine well so I mounted the battery pack inside of it.

Lastly so far is my favorite.  It is the Nerf Motorized Ballzooka.
This gun has the 9.6v battery pack mounted inside the gun, I had to moddify the cocking mechanism work with this adaption but it works as it should work stock.  The battey pack eliminates a good amount of weight because this gun was originally powered by 6 D size batteries.

this gun stock shoot foam balls about 25 feet but with battery upgrade hits 50 feet.

I only have one video of me shooting one of the guns which is the ds20, I did that one to prove that the gun could shoot 100 feet but in the video I could only hit 86 or so feet and that was measured with a tape measurer.

I hope that this helps answer any question about the mod potential of flywheel guns, but any comments or questions about anything relating to them please feel free to ask.

Here are what they look like un-painted if anyone is not familiar with them.

Well yes and no,  they are a metallic black with silver flake in them!  The other thing is that I dont dress in cammo fatigues and run around my neighborhood. Some of the pictures just had the first layer of flat black primer and not the metal flake.
I am not a kid, maybe Peter Pan at heart but for the most part I just play inside with the wife and kids( kind of telling the are huh) I did'nt paint of the orange barrels on the guns, some of them did'nt have barrels at all like the Motorized Ballzooka, and the DS20 barrels I left the stock grey but i did paint the yellow rings though.

I wish I could paint worth a F^&* then maybe I could sell one or two so I can Buy something else to work on.  I plan on doing some research on paint tecniques and possible throw some type of design on top of the black as the background.  I think most people would want a black gun but my mom doesn't object to me painting them....lol

I still have a collection of stock painted guns from a

I've checked out ubermensch's T20 mod, and have seriously considered doing it, 20 semi-auto shots is pretty darn good!

Yeah I have to give ubermensch his props too because, It was his Tommy 20 that got me interested playing with these flywheel guns.  I remember when I was a kid they had these battery powered race cars that you could race aginst your friends car on this track and they ran off 2AA with a blank space filler, but if you replaced the space filler with another AA battery the car would go faster.  So electric motor plus more power equals faster car because of faster motor caused by more power. Wow, I must admit that Mech 6 looks awesome! Mad props for actually improving the blaster. That swappable turret mod for the automatic tommy 20 looks pretty kickass too. Any thoughts on doing a writeup?

I formally concede my position as "flywheel guy" Tongue

I did a write up on the tommy 20, I think if you search Tommy 20 it should pull up but if I remember correctly the title was
Why by a vulcan when you can have a Tommy 20 or something of that nature.
