2009-2010 Winter Mod Contest

Ok, just a few weeks left on the Homemade modding contest. Just a recap; we have two divisions competing, a pistol division and a primary division.  Each will have a separate prize, each will be judged separately. Yes you can enter one or both categories.

Post your mod in the Homemades modding section as you normally would. Post only a link to said mod here in this thread please. Submissions will be judged by a panel of FU staff.

Rules Recap:

Submissions have no restrictions on materials, as long as the materials are commercially obtainable. These will be judged from the standpoint of reproducibility so cost and availability of materials is important.

Submissions can certainly include parts of commercially made nerf and related blasters, but do not go overboard.  If you strip the shell from a Nerf gun and duck tape it up and try to pass it off as homemade that will not fly. You will get a score, but it will be pitiful.

All the usual no-nos apply; no CO2, no paintball or airsoft ammo. These should fire Nerf ammo or stefans. Battery power (i.e. Vulcan) is ok, hand-held bike pump is ok.

Submissions should be war-practical. A 6-foot PVC sabot cannon is not practical.

How pretty the gun looks, will have some reflection on score, but not much. Paint it if you want make it look clean, but paint jobs will not be scored in this particular contest.

Points scored for:
Practicality (for war)
Innovation (something never before seen)
Cheapness to build
Clever design and/or use of spare parts

Oh yeah, the gun should work and you should have test fired it. I do not care if it is snowing out! It would take you two minutes to test fire it and get a rough range estimate.

The end of the contest will be Sunday Feb 7th at midnight Eastern Standard Time. That is approx. 4 weeks away.

Prizes! The prize for the pistol class will be a Nerf or related off-the-shelf pistol of $20 approx. value or less, NIB. The primary will be a Nerf or related off-the-shelf pistol of $40 approx. value or less. I think a Vulcan can be purchased for $40 so that is a good number.

Not sure if the deadline was midnight last night or tonight.

Well, just in case...Here's my "Rifle"-sized submission

Awesome range, this could be great if you had a Nerf war in a small closet.

The word "good" has many meanings. For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of five hundred yards, I should call him a good shot, but not necessarily a good man.

Ok, done.

Pistol category winner: Split

Primary category winner: K9

This was a very close race on the primary category, you guys did some great work. Jwasko, this design with a little refining could be incredible. Split, your design was inspired but I think too difficult for the average modder to replicate. You other guys did very good as well.

K9's entry I think best represented the goals of the contest. He took crap and made applesauce out of it. He developed a design never before seen using materials that most would never have considered.

Split's rebuild of the LnL I think has great potential. You hate to throw away these older classic guns. I think as they break down,  we are going to see a lot more rebuilding going on in the future.

Good work guys!
